Hi,

Having organised many events in the past, I was just wondering if we should start thinking seriously about the Christmas do, as these things take an awful lot of time to research, organise, and get people to commit and book. It would be a shame to leave it too late.

Adam.

Great idea! I think winter is on the way already, judging by how it looked out of the window today!!! We are open to suggestions. I think those who attened last year's bash will agree that it was a fantasic do, and considering most of us had never met eachother, it was a great way to make new friends. Let's hope we can make it even better this year! Very Happy

You can see some photos from last year's Christmas Party here. Let's try and pick a venue which is accessible to as many people as possible, so we get a good turn out.

I'm looking forward to it already! Smile

can i be really silly and suggest the new year for this - early Jan when everyone has finished the "family and friends" celebrations and then has nothing to look forward too especially the postman turning up with the bills! Just an idea so that we all having something to look forward to in the dark windy days of Jan......

Which means it has to be fairly central to the UK, I'd have thought.

The Arrow was excellent last year, and I certainly wouldn't have a problem with that again. (Particularly if the evening's entertainment involved the can-can...) Cool

Although it might also be nice to try somewhere new. I'm sure there's a whole selection of hotels with helipads that folks here have tried. Any suggestions anybody?

It's not quite Midlands, but I can recommend two such places in Devon. The Lord Haldon Hotel just off the edge of Dartmoor, near Exeter (they do fantastic Christmas bashes!). And the Kitley House Hotel, in Yealmpton (near Plymouth). Maybe these are more suited for a Summer gathering.

As this one seems to be dragging a bit, may I offer my services in organising this event? I would be quite happy to do so, and have a lot of experience organising such events (having organised a black tie dinner for 140 people at the Houses of Parliament in the past few years!).

If someone else is keen to do this, I don't mind, I'm happy to fit in either way.

I will happily research a good location, and co-ordinate everyone in attendance.

I think it needs someone to dedicate some time to it, and I'm happy to do that. Otherwise it may not happen, or at worst, be a last minute rush.

If everyone is happy with me doing it, I'll set up some "polls" to find out what we all want to do, and then get on organising it. It's getting late in the year now, so time is ticking.

A.

Am just researching a hotel and conference centre south of Oxford as a possible for a weekend gathering which also do Xmas parties. There is a small gym and swimming pool and bar, etc.

They have about 52 acres of parkland of which some can be used for landings, I reckon in front and to the side of the main building there is room for at least 6 to 8 R44's. There was an EC120 there last week.

They do dinner and disco packages, don't know what the minimum number is.
Will find out more just in case.

Hello everyone!

Sorry I haven't been posting to this thread much - I keep meaning to say something and then I get distracted!

Anyway, I think it woked really well last year at the Arrow. I'm not saying we HAVE to go back there again, but the format was nice - three course dinner in a function room which we decorated (quite nicely I might add!), a little PA system, and some really great company.

What kind of thing did you have in mind Adam?

Oldy worldy, log fire etc, that will probably rule out the Oxford shire location but will speak to them this week. Get some photos etc.
Might be good for a weekend get together.

Sorry nipping off this thread slightly but Also got info on location in the Isle of Wight for a weekend bash maybe next year. Will bring it along to Helitech.

OK, perfectly happy to do it all.

Hate to poo poo an idea, but I think the Isle of Wight is just too far for a lot of people, and would maybe restrict numbers. Mid England would be better I feel.

Happy to look for Oak Beams etc....that would be very nice.

I don't personally have a problem with last year's venue, but all I would say is that it's been done. I think one of the exciting things about flying helis for un is going to different places all the time. Makes it more interesting for everyone....a bit of variety.

I'll get back to you all soon with suggestions.

How about Fawsley Hall in Northamptonshire,
Fairly Central, loads of Rotary parking space, olde worlde charm and modern facilities.

checkout their website

Hi Eddie!

What a lovely looking place! Just spoke with someone at Fawsley Hall, and they said that their pad can accomodate 2 helis, although if arranged in advance the neighbouring fields would be able to accommodate more.

Rooms are a bit pricey, starting at ??195 for a standard double bed and breakfast, and Saturday nights can get booked up due to weddings in December.

We'll keep it in mind as an option - location is nice and central but accomodation might be a problem if they've got a wedding going on.

Anybody got any other favourites?

The place itself looks fantastic, I agree, but yes, it's VERY pricey! Bearin gin mind we will be paying for heli hire, up to three or four hours, and the hotel, and lunch too, plus drinks. I think it could be out of most people's budget. Shame though, great place.
