Hi All,

Just wondering, is 800 pixels the maximum upload size?

Regards.

The gallery resizes images as they are uploaded, so you can upload whatever size you wish.

For posting to threads, the original image is displayed, but resized in html to be 600 pixels wide.

Hope that helps

It's just that a pic I uploaded at 1024 pixels wide has been reduced to 800 pixels in the photo comp gallery. Confused

The gallery makes two sizies - 800 px max for the large images, 500 px for the small image and then a thumbnail. If we left it open to any size, people may upload files which are several thousand px wide and several MB in file size. As you can appreciate this would quickly use up our server space not to mention making it difficult for people to download / view the image on their screens.

Hope this expains why it was re-sized. I am sure that if you win the comp, Ned will ask you for a hi-res version anyway!

Thanks for your participation. Hope to hear from you again sometime! Very Happy

Hi All... Whirly hi again Razz nice of u to share this info... just one questuion, please: If I upload exactly 800 pix wide or 500 pix wide photo.. will gallery try to 'resize' it and re-write JPEG file or just leave it intact? May sound dumb to ask (well.. 800 pix is 800 pix, right?) but Photoshop and graphic geeks Shocked will tell you that in order to maintain quality one should not write and rewrite JPEGs.. at least not too often Confused

Cheeres,

S.

Hi salinger,

Good question. It does check the file dimentions I believe and if no re-sizing is necessary I think it tells you that it's ok. I think.

I know what you mean about re-saving JPEGs, but as these pics are for viewing on screen rather than for printing at high-quality, the size and quality is usually sufficient.

I just thought that 1024 or even 1200 pixels wide does more and the detail of the chopper does the pic more justice. But it is my first ever chopper pic. Hoepfully I can share more in the future. Thumbs Up
