Very Happy City airport is holding its open day and fly in on Saturday 19th September its a full mix of aviation from micro lights to Heli's and as there is GM polices's MD 902 as well as the air ambulance EC 135 to look at (I think im getting a little bit obsessive with the EC135) It would be worth a visit. There are also a few heli schools based there with a selection of R22's R44's to look at and I do know one of them operates an Enstrom fx280 and a B206 which I would assume to be there.

That sounds like a good day,
I'm close enough to drive to that as I live not far from the M58 near Aintree.
Might get myself down to it as there don't seem to be too many aviation events up here in the North West (and I missed the Jetstream openday at Liverpool airport a few months ago due to doing some motorsport marshalling on the same weekend).

Love the EC-135 myself, get to see one in action fairly close most days actually, as Merseyside Police's tends to fly over the house and surrounding area a lot . . . (NOT looking for me I hasten to add !!!)

Anyone else going from here, , either by road, or even better flying in? It would be good to meet a few people from here as I've only recently joined after reading the forum on and off for a while.

Is nobody else planning on going this saturday?
I'm still aiming to get there, probably some time around/just after lunchtime, as I'm not exactly a morning person...

No probs mate (well, you know what I mean, not that I ever enjoyed working Saturdays..)

I'll try and get a few photos either on my phone or camera (flash is fubared on the camera so I don't know if I'm taking it yet, it's just a basic snapshot Olympus).

I'm hoping to get up close to some of the heli's, particularly the 135 if it's not out on a call(s).. (and I doubt they'll let me ride along no matter how much I begged! , unless I can convince them they need IT support in-flight....hmmmmmm)

Very Happy

Well I had a pretty good afternoon at the openday, got there at around 13:30, to a fairly busy sky above!

I was listening to the control tower most of the afternoon and they were a bit busy to say the least. They did tell us how many movements they'd had towards the end of the day, but I've forgotten the number now..

I was lucky with the my timing, as not too long after I arrived the Air Ambulance took off (I assume to go out on a call as they crew were in it), and didn't return until much later in the afternoon (and then it was only on the ground for a few minutes before lifting off again).

I've put my few pictures up on flickr if anyone want's to take a look (excuse the pic of me looking happy, as I got to sit in the copilot seat of the police heli after I said to one of the crew that the closest I get normally is on flightsim! - missed out on the chance to see the EC-135 up close tho).

I've got a 3+ min clip of the Air Ambulance from startup to leaving the field , if anyone wants it I can upload it later this evening.

The tour of the airfield was quite good as well, got to see up close the old hangars, and then the control tower at the end (it had quietened down somewhat by then at around 16:20, but still activity going on).

Oops, missed this reply somehow !

Yes, that's me!
LOL, caught on camera.
That was just after we'd waited a while for the next batch of visits, managed to get at the front and got a sit in it Smile
