I now have a new edition to the flight bag, the CRP 1, I've tried using a chinagraph but smudges when trying to remove the marks after. Would a soft pencil be better? What do you use?

A sharp pencil is best, small accurate marks and can be rubbed off with an eraser. Or if you use chinograph fag ash is good at rubbing it off.... come on, I found my ATPL's stressful....

I believe that your CRP-1 is the same as our E6B flight computer.
A little trick I learned many years ago to make the pencil mark come off easier is to apply a very thin coat of Vaseline or petroleum jelly to the screen.
Use a very small amount and rub it in, then wipe excess off with a soft tissue.
It works!
Gotta go now...

Just use a non-permanent / water soluble marker pen, preferably with a thin tip. Accurate enough to use and wipes off easily afterwards. I've used on on my CRP-1 for years and it is still as good as new _________________ DBChopper
