This is terrible, what a dreadfull week for aviation. It is frightening stuff for a student pilot such as myself, and its times like these that make me question why I so desperatley want to learn to fly helicopters.
Because, Paddywak, you are being taught by experienced instructors who are ALWAYS mindful of their students' and PPL(H)s' safety and capabilities. So, carry on flying and enjoy every minute of it.
I know that our instructors would always teach our students/PPL(H)s to NEVER EVER push their boundaries. When it comes to SFHiring especially, if the weather is 50/50 we err on the side of caution and suggest that they SFH on another day. Thankfully our PPL(H)s do take our advice. We are not there to spoil their day when they have been so looking forward to flying off by themselves. We want to count them out and count them in.
You might want to have a look at this thread too - my first post on there (seventh one down) applies equally today, as it did 4 years ago. (Sadly, some of the posts have been 'cleared' by the author, but I think you'll get the idea of the conversation from the replies there.)
I think you're right to be concerned about it, but do so positively - make sure you're happy with the equipment you're flying, and your ability to fly it, and you'll be as safe as you can be! _________________ J.
Thanks for that link JTL, intresting stats. Catwoman, your'e right I am under instruction from very good pilots and I do take advice from them whenever it is given, and so far so good. I also do my best to know my own limitations and apply common sense, but its the experience I lack and so subsequently the confidence too. Perhaps the very fact that I have this in the back of my mind will help to keep me on the right track, (no pun intended). I will do my best to be as safe as possible and enjoy my time in the air.
