Hi Everyone,

Would anyone be interested in doing Dick Morington-Sanford's Robinson Safety Course in the Midlands? We have a course booked for 17th - 19th May and there are few places still available.

There are two full days of ground school on the Monday and Tuesday, with the two hours of safety course flying to be arranged for the Wednesday or alternatively on the following weekend, should you be unable to make the course three days running.

It really is a valuable and worthwhile course and is open to anyone who flies Robinsons, whether you are a student, PPL or CPL.

http://www.flyheli.co.uk/events/detail/robinson_safety_course/

If you could let me know in the next couple of days if you would like to come along, that would be great - the course can only run if there are a minimum number of participants and I need to let Dick know within a week.

Many thanks!

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Would this course be useful for low hour students or better taken with plenty of hours under one's belt?

Also, how often are the courses offered? Annually, bi-annualy or not even as regular as that?

And finally, would the course offer more knowledge in assisting in passing the PPL(H) exams?

A8C.

Oh, and what exactly is involved in the '2 hours safety course flying'?

Here is an outline of the course structure:

http://www.morningtonsanfordaviation.com/courses/safety_course_syllabus.html

This course only runs about once per year at Helicentre, but Dick travels all over Europe and the rest of the world in fact running these courses. I certainly improves technical knowlege and several of our students have done the course whilst still in the early stages of the training. It is no secret that you will watch some disturbing videos and talk about fatal accidents, but it is better to learn from other people's misfortune than to end up in the AAIB report yourself!

It focuses very heavily on RRPM recovery and emergency procedures - a good backup to what you learn on your PPL(H), and the safety course flying supplements this by doing a lot of governor off flying with various ways to restore RPM, and quite a bit of emphasis on autorotations and other emergency procedures.

It's up to you whether you do it now or wait until you have progressed further with your training, but it is a really interesting course, and the more you know about helicopter safety the better if you're going to be flying around by yourself before too long!

Sarah
