Dear All

Is there anyone on here that lives in or close to Weston super Mare. I am going down there in two weeks time for the Helidays event and understand they have done some work on improving the sea defences there ( cant work out why you need binoculars to see the sea most of the time)

We used to access the showground at a gate opposite the Tropicana but am led to believe they have built an access ramp there and i would struggle to get a caravan up there.

Any info about the beach lawns gratefully received

Thanks

Martin

Hi Martin

I live about 10 miles from WSM and went in there today.

What a mess! A lot of the beach roads are shut off or one way or light controlled. Some of the roads are being pedestrianised and they are landscaping some of the lawns.

Anyway, down by the Tropicana there is a new wide through road but with a lockable gate at the end nearest the beach. When I say through road I mean from the road on the beach side to the road that runs parallel near the houses/hotels. Although the lawns and beach roads were always flat and level, for some reason this road is raised in the middle, like a small hill and the grass next to it has been landscaped so it is raised as well. Whether this is the ramp you heard about?

I was chatting to one of the guys from the Helimuseum and he said that the contractors were unable to say how much would be finished by Helidays and what exactly the roads would be doing.

Perhaps the Helidays organisers can tell you more?

Regards
Trev

Thanks Trev.

I have been in contact with the organisers and dont think they are impressed. I am helping out there again.

The road you mentioned i think what separates the show ground from the heliport area. What was our main entrance to the show site was on the promenade road ( to avoid having too much stopped on the beach road) opposite the tropicana which lead onto a block paved area . Not sure what that is used for in normal times ( i only see it when helidays is on).

According to the organisers the heliport area hasnt changed at all. Think i will just orbit the promenade with the caravan until i find the entrance.

Feel free to say hello if you around .

Thanks for the info

Martin

I hope to get there for the refuelling at least, so if I see someone with a helipad on their caravan roof, I'll definitely say hello.
