Looking for somewhere to go Saturday afternoon and am thinking of flying in to Wellesbourne as I've not made it over there yet!

Wondering whether any of "the locals" are likely to be around for a chat and a coffee? We have an R22 booked for 1230 (local) so expect to arrive Wellesbourne 1330ish.

Also, I've read AIP/Pooleys for Wellesbourne but any "local info" would be appreciated - eg do helis typically join the circuit and approach to the active runway, or do you keep clear of the fixed wing circuit and approach to the grass (as we would over here at Sywell?).

Thanks in advance

Craig

Hi rc!

Wasn't planning to go over on Saturday as I am there all day Friday, but then again we could get over if you were coming down! Wink

I don't finish work until about 1pm unfortunately though. Sad
It'd be about 2 by the time we got there. What time are you planning to leave in the afternoon? I'll post again later about local stuff - just finishing off with some students at the mo!

Evening Rotocraig

We will be around on Saturday and it will be good to meet up with you.

blme will be instructing on Sat, but usually he manages to 'escape' for lunch around 13.30(ish!!)

You could even land at Heliair if you wanted to (unfortunately, you would still have to pay the landing fee!!). But, a gentle warning, if you land at Heliair you will have to land on one of the pads (or the grass) on the 'air side' of the taxiway and NOT next to the Heliair car park..........

Alternatively, you could always land almost opposite the fixed wing flying schools, e.g Wellesbourne Aviation or PFT (these are located next to the cafe!!)

Circuit 600ft AGL for helis, direct joins are ok - just call the tower. Heliar SW corner.

Wellesbourne Airfield is a very friendly airfield - Frankie is on call on Saturday and she will look after you Cool

Hope to meet up with you. Keep us posted and let us know what you intend to do Smile Plus, which registration you will be flying Smile
and what type Smile

rc,

I know how daunting it can be planning the join for an unfamiliar airfield. Why don't you give them a call before you set off, find out which runway their using (likely to be 18 or 36, but could possibly be 23 or 05 Shocked ), and then at least you can come up with a plan.

Gotta go, next student's arrived! Phew. Rolling Eyes

Thanks folks; yes I usually phone before I leave to check the runway etc.

Fingers crossed for the weather; the various forecasts that I have bookmarked seem to disagree at the moment!!!

Catwoman I've PM'ed you on arrangements to meet up.

Yes I'm not convinced by the weather forecast, also may be a fleeting visit as we have the machine booked for 1230 but I think that the owner needs it back at 1430.

So will make a decision at the time and let Catwoman and yourself know by text whether we're on or off.

If weather or time are against us we may stay local tomorrow and fix up another date in the near future.

We've an R22 booked first thing Sunday and the forecast looks more promising this time round Smile

Likely to be a fleeting visit as we only have a 2 hour slot booked. Maybe on the ground in Wellesbourne between 1000-1030 local.

Anyone likely to be around for a quick coffee?

If the weather's up to it, then yes.

Not sure whether we're just going to get the same fog/haze that we had all day today in Northampton though; waiting to see what the morning brings.

Today was rather hazy, mind you at least there was a bit of sun, which is more than can be said for the last 5 days!

Best of luck with the wx! You might find some of the "locals" (yes you know who you are) hanging around if you do make it over! Have a good one, hope to see you soon.
