How about departures - will we be able to make a quick getaway and depart on track?

When we have looked at the show area and the available parking space and Orange Arm Waver has decided, I will post our thoughts. Check this thread Saturday evening.

For info, we were landing 36 on a left hand circuit yesterday .

We had two Merlins doing a photo shoot.
Also, a swedish plank and two RAF Jet planks ( Hawks).

Will post later with arrangements.

As promised, our findings from today.

If the forecast is correct, we will still be landing 36 tomorrow.

the parking for the visiting helis is on the cross 08/26 runway towards the 08 threshold, next to the US Army Blackhawk. ( this is staying until Monday)

Spoke to Neil Porter today and he suggested request final for the Grass runway. The grass 36 runway is west of the hard runway.

Look to undershoot the grass and request hover taxi straight onto 26. There will be a line of display fixed wing along the centreline.
Please hover taxi behind the line of aircraft and towards the Blackhawk and Orange Arm Waver will be waiting.

OAW seems to think there is 1 R22 and 3 R44's.

Please confirm who is coming and in what so we know tomorrow.

I suggest meeting at the booking in point just before the air display, seems a good point as any.

See you all tomorrow
Happy landings

Did you make it to Abingdon Helivator?

We landed about 10 minutes late and were marshalled in by OI Martin and Orange Arm Waver. We found the Wellesbourne R22 but didn't spot an R44.

Met up with WhirlyGirl and WhirlyGuy for the display, even managed to get a burger in a sensible amount of time this year - the queues were much shorter. The display was good, but a shame that there was only one heli this year (the Chinook flew and left with all its wheels this time, but the Merlin was static only and our R22s didn't count!).

We got away quickly after the end of the display - once again the helis had the advantage, being able to skip the long queues of planks waiting to line up Very Happy

Weather wasn't brilliant, but hopefully that's the "fly in season" off to a start for Mark and myself!

Will post some photos later.

By car for a short while.
We had a technical involving an intermittent oil pressure sensor sender which stayed in the green under idle but kept red lining on the gauge at full operating revs.
Better safe than sorry we had to bug out of flying.
Got hold of an engineer later in the day we confirmed that the sensors do go every now and again and we could have flown.
Hover flew for an hour after we got back to Denham . The gauge sensor had sorted itself out but as I have a 100hr maintenance due in 2 hrs it will just go in early and all get checked out.

Good to meet up with folks again.

Sorry heliaviator, I think I may have caught sight of you along the flightline in the crowd but by the time the brain had kicked into gear it was too late. I think the brain had been pickled by the Jet A1 from the Hunter, JP's and Hawks. Nice to get a chance to marshal jets.

Apparently when the chinook was taxying in after display it kicked up so much debris it completely showered those people watching from outside the showground. Serves them right for not coming in.

Nice low level departures from Mark and Mark, an amazing coincidence.
See you all next time.

It came in low level over the road, and landed immeditely over the hedge rather than back on the taxi way where it started.

Unfortunately there were a lot of hay bales just over the hedge and they flew all over the place, sending those that were too tight to pay their way in running for cover!!!

Excellent fun to watch, but happened too quickly to get any photos!

Nice to see you all at Abingdon yesterday...

The Abingdon Gallery is now up with a selection of photos that myself and Rotorcraig took. If anyone was there and would like to add to the gallery please feel free. I managed to get one of the Chinook landing - you can pretty much see the people getting covered in hay!

Sorry to hear about your tech problem heliaviator. See you next time.

Hi ChinookDisplay!

Welcome to HeliTorque. I must say the Chinook display was excellent! It is amazing to watch the Chinook do things that aerodynamically look almost impossible! Congrats to Flt Lt Ollie for an amazing show.

How many of you were there on the Chinook team?
