Generally, if using a computer, get up and look out a window to change your focus from near to far every so often. Don't read paperwork or a book, it's the focus distance that needs to change.

I've been using computers for over 20 years, often many hours a day. Some places I've been in have no windows, so just getting up and walking about does the same job. No problems on my Class 1 medical with that approach. Although they did find a scar on my retina, which wasn't a problem because of its position. Had it since birth they said, I think it gave them some excitement during that memorable Friday afternoon poking and prodding around.

I also turn the brightness down, and have a black desktop (so, with no windows open, the screen is black). This way I keep the strain down too.

People often buy a computer based on the CPU performance and the like. The screen is what you use day in day out, so I always ensure the spec of that is sufficient to make a comfortable working environment. Bit like the 'which headset' debates in aviation.

Being able to hear ATC and without too much noise intrusion makes for a more relaxed environment in the cockpit. Eyes and Ears need protection, you don't get second chances, look after them!

Good idea to have some time at the end of the journey, I find, to allow the blood pressure to stabilise.....
