Some people are just stupid enough to hang under a helicopter!!

Some pilots are just stupid enough to let them do it!!!

This young lady is stupid... cute, but stupid nonetheless!!!

This pilot, however, ought to know better...
...he should get a suspension, revocation, or be shot in front of a firing squad!!!

FLY SAFE !!!

I found this on a hang gliding website that I frequent and just assumed that her feet were probably only two or three feet AGL. Thinking she could simply drop to the ground, she probably thought it all seemed harmless.

The pilot probably thought so too...
...and that's my point. If shown the photo, and provided with even minimal scrutiny, the pilot would hopefully admit something like... "Yeah, probably wasn't a good idea putting her life at risk like that."

But I've been around helicopters long enough to see some weird shit happen!! Thank the gods there wasn't even the slightest mechanical problem, or we all would have heard about another tragedy.

FLY SAFELY !!!

Based on the dressing down in the first post, I'm not certain I should mention this, but we have a photo in our archives of our founder flying a Hiller 12B with a two-person trapeze act suspended beneath.

Before anyone calls for his license, it was during the 1950's when safety wasn't regulated as closely as today. He also sold rides at the county fair where these performances took place, which was how he started Columbia Helicopters.

Today, I imagine our insurance company would suspend our policy for even suggesting such a circus act.

Are we sure that the photo is genuine? Surely if you were hanging like that you'd be blasted with a downwash and be so worried about the landing that you wouldn't manage to smile (even if you looked that cute Very Happy)

Here's another highly irresponsible photo ... think that his father should be shot for allowing such a stunt (unless of course it's a fake Wink)

Actually, my first thought was that it was a Photoshop special.

I reckon, the overlayed picture of the woman quite possibly originated in a gymnasium. What do you think? Set of dumbells perhaps? Or maybe hanging from rings? Wink

The photo looks genuine to me no need to photoshop this as it???s all about prospective, she could be just 6 inches off the ground and the angle of the photo and combined with the background gives the impression of extreme height. I have to say I have seen many pilots, without a good looking girl hanging underneath, doing much more stupid things.

I can't tell if that first image is faked - it looks pretty well done if it is. There ARE people around who would do stupid things like that, although hopefully not on this forum!! Looks like the Photoshoppers have been at it again - there's a whole load of floating people on this page:

I'm not aware of any law that prohibits people from hanging from the underside of a helicopter. So just why do you have so much hatred for this pilot?

No hatred for this pilot, I'm sorry if my post gave that impression!! ..just professional disdain for stupid stunts!!

As an advanced rated hang glider pilot, life-long surfer, and general "kid at heart" kind of guy, I appreciate and excercise my right to participate in activities that could kill me if I weren't careful!!!

Ours is an extremely litigous society here in the USA. If something were to have gone horribly wrong during this "stunt", there's not a thousand waivers-of-responsibility, hold-harmless and consent-forms that would keep this out of court.

The pilot in command takes on tangible responsibility even when a person is "informed" of potential associated risks. Flying professionally is my life and my livelyhood. I simply won't risk my certificates for a Red Bull photo opportunity!!

as always... FLY SAFELY !!!

Highly irresponsible in my view - the girl is probably just trying to tell him that he hasn't got his seatbelt on. Rolling Eyes

Here is another irresponsible father one - not a fake this time, he nearly does get it down in one go! A chip off the old block! Shocked

Hi aj!

I think you've started something now!

Just found this on the net :

Having looked at the image that you posted I can't say for a definite as to whether that is a photoshop edit or not. If I were to say yes then it would be because of the length of her left arm, looks a bit susp and if you zoom in on the image then the insides of her legs have more 'jaggies' - totally technical term there Smile than other parts of the image and if compressed using JPG then should really be the same on other parts of the image. Also her hands holding the beams look a little susp too. Couldn't possibly say though with the image as it is just too small to be able to tell.

On the other hand it could be real as all the lighting is in the correct places and as Alan said it can all be done with forced perspective views whereby the helicopter may only be a few feet off the ground but by taking the shot from a really low angle and good use of backing imagery can produce this kind of image.

Probably just confused myself now with all of that so I'm off to find that great picture of the Heli and Shark!! How anyone ever thought that one could be real is beyond me!!!
